Compass Fruit Limited is the packing facility for the Heartland Group.

It processes 50,000 bins of apples for export and NZ customers.

That is approximately, 900,000 18kg cartons of apples.

Compass employs at peak season around 140 people with 30 employees working daily for nearly the full year.

Water Flume

All processes at the packing plant soft handle apples which will bruise with a drop of more than 50mm.

Apples picked into bins on the orchard are loaded into the plant using water dumps which gently float the apples out of each bin.

Packing

Fruit is graded for size, colour and defects using the latest technology.

The fruit is then put into the different packs required by each customer.

Quality Control

A selected sample of all packlines are quality checked by trained staff prior to shipping.
