In Scandinavian legends, the North-European gods and goddesses were fed an apple every evening by Iduna, the goddess of spring and youth who nurtures an apple orchard in Asgard.
Perfect Climate
Surrounded by mountains and the sea, Nelson is the ideal region to start to grow the perfect apple.
The coastal location ensures mild winters and moderate summers. Nelson is in the top three centers annually for the highest sunshine hours recorded in New Zealand. Sunshine hours are the key to fruit flavour.
Harvest at Optimum Maturity
We test the fruit for the right maturity and begin to harvest.
Through the summer months each variety comes ready to pick at its own optimum time.
The colour of the fruit has changed and starches stored in the apples have begun to convert to sugars.
Our trained staff work with pickers to ensure that only the fruit that is ready to harvest is selected from the trees. Not all the fruit matures at the same time and we can take up to four pick runs to remove all harvestible fruit from the tree.
